Darren was born and raised in B.C. and has lived in Vernon for the past 24 years.

After bouncing from job to job in his younger years, he spent two years working in a sawmill and quickly realized that was not the career for him.

After getting laid off for the third time, he went to college where he took journalism and photography which formed the basis for a career he has been enjoying (most of the time) for the past 25 years. He wrote a slice-of-life column for a daily newspaper for eight years and still writes articles for his blog, therudemonkey.blogspot.ca.

He is a middle-aged father of three children. He has one dog and shares his home with two cats (although he's not exactly sure how that happened.)

He is losing hair where he wants it and is growing it where he doesn't need it. He has a love for motorcycles and enjoys martial arts.
